I wrote two blogposts in the last few days, partly in preparation for some discussions, partly to reaffirm some thinking

I'd like to share these within this community, if you have time to read them- wonderful, if you feel like commenting on them- even better.

  • To drive the type of change needed comes from a dissatisfaction with the current. While organizations cater to short term performance they meet the needs of the investor. As we see this 'draining' the potential of people to go beyond the immediate, of innovation to be something more than incremental to shore up the short-term we are ignoring investment in the future.

Until we have a 'sea change' in our needs beyond achieving higher returns expected today it is very hard to change the conversation easily. I regretfully meet more cynicism than optimism and until we see this belief for the future returning we have a hard path to travel when you want to refocus organizations and its leadership away from "just producing better numbers" each quarter.

Like you I want to see the shift and recognition of building for the future but we all seem so caught up in the present.

In the end we fight our personal corners hopefully chipping away, sketching out alternatives that will become recognized as the ew pathway. I often sense we are in the that interim period in history where we struggle to make the next defining move.

  • I'm not sure I understand your question--I guess I think that changing conversations is a first step to changing mindsets.  We're talking about this here in our community. But how can we drive change out there in the mainstream business world?

  • Change the conversation? How are we all trying ot shift the existing mindsets Mary?

  • Hi Paul - Capitals, innovation, measuring and value creation--we're on the same page!

I'm interested in what you are doing in your work to change the conversation?  Mary
